Being that this week we celebrated Independence Day in the U.S and Canada, my blog post is a little different. It’s worth the 3 minutes to read it.
My 96-year-old Grandfather who served in WWII is still alive and kicking today. Doing awesome. Every National Holiday here in the U.S., I make it a point to call him and express how thankful I am for his service to our country. Allowing us to have the freedoms and privileges that most don’t.
I make a gratitude list and I count my blessings daily. Because no one goes through life without storms. So, what! We have been sailing through storms before and we still win! Now is the time to FEEL your power to control your own future and not let the Chicken Littles of the world tell you otherwise.
When you read the letter below, does it connect for you? Are you grateful for what you have? Are you blaming something or someone else? YOU, AND YOU ALONE are the one that creates your thoughts and your life and future with your thoughts.
The following letter is about people’s dissatisfaction with life. Currently the source is unknown:
The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with their lives. What are we so unhappy about?
Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day?
Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?
Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state?
Or, possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?
Having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world.
When we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take us to the hospital.
We have the right to own a home.
In the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving us.
While at home watching one of our many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend us and our family against attack or loss.
Our troops around the world have volunteered to serve, and in many cases have died for our freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn’t have to go.
Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?
Be cautious of the media. They know this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells and, when criticized, try to defend their actions by ‘justifying’ them in one way or another.
Be careful about filling your mind with all the negativity that the media tries to fill it with. Be grateful for all we have. There is exponentially better than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should give thanks several times a day for everything we have and the great opportunities we have in front of us.
Have a great holiday weekend!
